Operations Engineer (DevOps)

Location: Tokyo, Japan

Department: Engineering

Type: Full Time

Min. Experience: Experienced

You may know us as Gengo, and you may know we were recently acquired by Lionbridge. Our name may be different, but our passion to create, culture of diversity, and technology-first mindset remain intact. In fact, these are just a few of the reasons we chose to join forces — Lionbridge will give us an even larger platform to share the original Gengo ethos. With the support of our new parent, we are also doubling-down on our focus to bring value to the AI ecosystem.

We are expanding our Engineering team and are looking for an awesome Development Operations Engineer to join us!

You: An enthusiastic engineer who loves building scalable infrastructures and solving software deployment challenges. Your aim is knowing that Gengo infrastructure is fully monitored and under control. You might be a developer yourself, have your own project(s) or contributed to open-source projects.

Us: We’re a Tokyo-based Internet startup helping large and small online services Go Global through our API and unique crowd-management platform. We love working with internationally-minded people, and most of our team have lived in another country before. A few even speak more than 3 languages. Perhaps because of all these languages we speak - and code in! - we’re a tight-knit team that works hard and has fun.

Together: We will build and maintain an infrastructure capable of handling millions of AI training-data tasks, worked on by tens of thousands of qualified contributors. There will be plenty of stimulating technical challenges to build and maintain multiple services.  If you love playing with Amazon’s AWS, Kubernetes, and Docker and get a kick out of analyzing KPIs and data for performance bottlenecks, all with the goal of making customers happier and contributors more efficient, then we’re going to have fun!

You will be the glue that ties an exciting platform together. And you will work with a team focused on working efficiently. You should have a firm grasp of networking tools and technologies, and an ability to run multiple cloud deployments - including production, staging, and sandbox. You hate it when anything goes down, but realize nothing is perfect and understand that communicating the status of a situation will earn you respect.

If this sounds like fun, we'd love to talk. This is an opportunity to work with some of the brightest engineers in Manila and Tokyo disrupting an industry that's ripe for innovation. We've got several projects in the pipeline just waiting for someone to run with!
